Do you suffer with migraines or headaches daily? Did you know they may be triggered by your teeth? An improper bite may play a significant role in certain types of headaches as well as other head and neck pain.
One of the major areas we evaluate during an examination is the bite, muscles and jaw joint. Many people have an imbalance in this system of teeth, muscles, and joint or TMJ. Consequently there is breakdown. The teeth may become excessively worn as patients grind or clench their teeth, this often leads to stress in the muscles which triggers the headaches. We have the training and equipment to evaluate this, so if you have been suffering with headaches call today for a consultation and find out if we can help.
If the indications are that your bite is a major factor for triggering headaches we will most likely prescribe an orthotic. It is a thin plastic retainer that snaps over the lower teeth to recreate a new bite. You will wear this appliance for a period of several months making sure the new bite position is reducing or eliminating the headaches and pain. After we find the most comfortable position we can proceed to make it permanent with several different treatments.
