Many people are nervous about
visiting the dentist and often have a lot of questions. We’ve posted
our most frequently asked ones on policies and treatments below. If you
don’t see the information you need here, please call us at 801-262-0744
so we can help you.
Can you show me what my smile can look like ahead of time with imaging
software?
Yes, we can. With our digital imaging system, we can use pictures of
your teeth taken with our digital or intra-oral camera to create an image
that
shows how a particular treatment or procedure would change the appearance
of your teeth. This is also useful if you’re deciding on cosmetic
work, like teeth whitening, veneers, or bonding. We can show what your smile
would look like if we changed the shade, filled in gaps, or lengthened
teeth. If you have questions about our digital imaging system, we would
be more than happy to demonstrate how it works.

How do I know when it's time to come in for a checkup? At what age
should my children first see a dentist?
We want to see our patients twice a year starting at age three. Unfortunately,
many patients wait until they have pain before they come to see us and
that can be a huge mistake! When you come in regularly, we can use our
preventive treatments to avoid cavities, root canals, crowns, extraction
of teeth, and gum disease. More importantly, our treatments can help
you save thousands of dollars and avoid unnecessary time in the dental
chair
by preventing problems before they start. This is especially important
for kids. When we see them twice a year, they will grow up with a lifetime
free of dental problems and that’s a wonderful gift to give your
children.

Do you accept my insurance plan?
In this day and age, we know deciphering your insurance benefits can
be confusing. We are happy to help you with any insurance questions you
may
have.
We feel, however, that your insurance should never dictate the quality
or timing of your treatment. We find that it makes more financial sense
to come in to see us regularly regardless of maximums, waiting periods,
and other restrictions. You’ll spend less money and have healthier
teeth in the long run. If you need financial assistance, our practice
can recommend affordable outside financing.

What different payment options do you provide?
We have several options available for your convenience when paying.

We also accept Master Card, Visa, Discover, and American Express. If
you need more extensive services, we can arrange outside long term financing.
We can also help you with short term (up to 3 months), limited financing
for small things or emergencies. We also provide financing through Care Credit and Capital One.

What do I do if I have an emergency when the office is closed?
Getting a patient out of pain is one of the more rewarding things we do. We see about 3 patients a day who have some type of pain that needs treatment. Whether you need a tooth removed, an infection treated or, tooth fixed you’ll be out of pain and amazed how easy it was. We hear over and over, “that’s it? I can’t believe how easy that was.” We set aside time each day specifically for patients with a toothache, so we are able to see you right away.

How can I safely whiten my teeth?
Many of our patients ask about teeth whitening. Since each mouth
is unique, we need to evaluate your teeth to recommend a specific method.
If you want to bleach your teeth, our proven system for teeth whitening really works and it’s so easy. If your teeth are cracked, chipped,
or discolored, Dr. Gleave may recommend restorative services, such as veneers
or recontouring. Over the past fifteen years, we’ve whitened hundreds
of patients’ teeth with exceptional results.

What makes you different than any other dental practice I can visit?
First, we only provide exceptional, high quality dental care. This
is important because if your dental work was done sloppily, it will eventually
need
to be redone. That can mean more money, more pain, and more time in the
dental chair. It’s so much easier to do it right the first time,
even if it costs more.
Unlike some dentists, we want you to get involved in the treatment
planning process. We think it’s important to have your input so you can understand
why we are recommending a certain procedure. Many of our patients like
this and say they haven’t found a more rational, practical, and
honest dentist than Dr. Gleave anywhere.
We make every effort to make your visit as painless and relaxing as
possible. If you are anxious about seeing the dentist, we offer nitrous
and oral
sedation. We can also can arrange to have IV sedation if you want to
be unconscious during your procedure.
Finally, we back up all of our services with a five year guarantee
to your complete satisfaction. We only ask that you come in for regular
re-care
appointments every six months.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?
Yes, you should be very concerned about bleeding gums, especially if
you haven’t had a check-up in a while. Bleeding gums can be caused
by a variety of things, from a leaky filling to gum disease. If your
gums
are bleeding, call us as soon as possible to schedule an appointment
so we can analyze the cause. In the long run, it will save you a lot
of pain,
money, and trouble if we can treat it right away.

I really do not like visiting the dentist, is there anything you can
do to help me relax?
We have several options for you. For our more fearful patients, we
use oral sedation. This gives our more jittery patients the confidence
to
come in and get the dental work they need done. We can also arrange
to have
IV sedation if you want to be unconscious during your procedure.
We also have nitrous oxide to help anyone who is excessively nervous
about
their
visit, has a sensitive gag reflex, or requires surgery or other complex
operations. More importantly, however, we have a gentle touch and
a deep concern for all our patients. If you wish to discuss these options
with
Dr. Gleave, he welcomes your questions before and during your appointment.

Do I have to floss every day? Is it really that important?
Your toothbrush can only reach so far into the contact area between
teeth. By not flossing, the plaque or bacteria will stay between
your teeth
and slowly cause problems. Consistently flossing your teeth after
you brush
is one of the best ways to prevent future dental work. In fact,
it prevents gum disease and cavities between your teeth. When you
come
to our office,
our hygienists can discuss the benefits of flossing and show
you the best techniques for flossing.
